PLEASE RSVP for Dinner by Sunday Noon (if possible; really helps us plan!)
This week’s topic: “The Danger of a Single Story: Faith and Calling from a Multicultural Perspective”
Our beliefs or thoughts about what our life calling is, or what we “should” do with our life, is often greatly influenced by our families and the culture(s) we grow up in.
Come listen to one young woman’s inspiring, powerful journey, how she found her “calling” when she discovered the “Danger of a Single Story”.
We’ll watch a TED talk episode out of the “Life Lessons and Confessions” Series.
Tonight we are featuring Chimamanda Adichie.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian novelist, nonfiction writer and short story writer. She has been called “the most prominent” of a “procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors” who is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature.” (Wikipedia).
We’ll follow the talk with a discussion in which we’ll also think about the “life stories” of our own lives; how are they influencing us, and our choices? How is faith/spirituality impacting our life stories? Do we “see” ourselves in the stories of sacred literature, such as the Bible? Why or why not?
Hope you can join us!
Friends and roommates always welcome in our relaxed, welcoming space.
